From
time to time throughout the semester, I'll offer extra credit
opportunities that will allow you to earn two bonus participation or
daily work points. If
you would like to suggest a campus lecture, event, or performance for
the extra credit opportunities list, please do.
Please limit your suggestions to on-campus events
(except for sporting events) and do not include regular weekly meetings
of a student or professional organization unless a special program or guest speaker is on the agenda.
All extra credit efforts must be instructor-approved, so if it's not on the list, check with me before the actual event. I will not approve any extra credit after the fact.
To earn the extra credit:
Attend an instructor-approved lecture, performance, or event on campus, then post a thoughtful, well-written 250-300 word (one-page) response to the lecture/ performance/ event on your blog.
Post guidelines:
- Title your post -- include the name, date, and location of the event. If it is a lecture, be sure to include the name of the lecturer in step 2;
- Write a brief (2 or 3 sentences) summary of the event to give the reader some context;
- Identify the ideas, performances, or qualities that made the strongest impression on you and discuss why they did so.
Maximum points available: Extra credit points are capped at
10/semester and your total participation points for the semester cannot
exceed 100% of the available points for either participation or daily
work.
This is an honor system. I'm not going to police
your attendance at any event. If, however, I have reason to believe
that you have misrepresented yourself, I may require you to submit proof
of attendance -- ticket stubs, programs, etc. -- before crediting your
work. (Two points are not worth potential academic misconduct
penalties. Enough said.)
